Independent
Working for the future of Truro and Cornwall on the Cornwall County Council
Welcome. I'm Bert Biscoe and I am the Independent Cornwall county councillor for Truro (East). I was elected in 1997. Since then I have devoted my time to representing the community of Truro, and the broader community of Cornwall. Latterly, I have been privileged to serve as a member of the council's Executive.
Other roles
I am also a member of Carrick district council and of Truro City Council. This enables me to cut ‘red tape’ for people and to encourage different council services to work together. This is most important in dealing with housing, welfare and environmental matters.
As a member of Truro City Council I represent the Council on the Cornwall Association of Parish & Town Councils (C.A.P.T.C.). The Association has elected me to represent it on the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Rural Cornwall Partnership, and the Partnership has elected me it’s Chairman. In this role I sit as a member of the Cornwall Economic Forum.
What is an INDEPENDENT?
For me INDEPENDENT means what it says on the can! I do not belong to any political party. I work with others to achieve a consensus, and treat all issues on their merits. I pay my own election expenses and do not rely upon a Party machine – the kids help out when they’re in the mood!
I work to achieve social justice, fairness and equality for one and all, and to promote efficient, cost-effective and practical policies which are in the best interests of both Truro and Cornwall.
